Rec & Ed Standard Scholarship
Who is Eligible for the Standard Scholarship Program?
This Scholarship program is available to individuals and families who meet the following criteria:
- Residency: Must live within the boundaries of the Ann Arbor Public School District boundaries.
- Non-AAPS residents may also apply for the scholarship program as long as their children are currently enrolled in an AAPS school. If approved, the scholarship will only apply to the children listed on the application.
- Income: Applicants must provide documentation of income or support that falls within specific HUD income guidelines.
- Important Information:
- Adult Children: Household members 18 years or older who are not attending high school must submit their own separate application.
- Extended Family: Grandparents or other relatives living in your household must also submit their own separate applications.
When Should I Apply?
Apply Early! Please submit your Scholarship Application and required documentation at least 10 business days before any desired registration date.
- Processing Time: Because we handle numerous registrations throughout the year, each application requires time for review. Applying early helps you avoid registration delays.
- Approval First: Rec & Ed registrations cannot be processed until a scholarship is approved and on file, or full payment is received.
- No Retroactive Credits: We are unable to refund fees or retroactively apply a scholarship to classes, activities, or camps that have already been enrolled in or paid for.
How Do I Apply?

2. Request a Paper Application
If you are unable to complete the application online, please call us at 734-994-2300 x 0 or email scholarships@a2schools.org to request a paper application
3. Provide REQUIRED verification:
- Verification of Residency: A copy of your valid driver’s license, a valid State ID, a current signed lease agreement or a utility bill.
- Verification of Income/Support: Copies of recent tax forms, a W-2’s and two current pay checks for all working family members.
- Self-Employed: Provide a copy of your Schedule C.
- Note: Based on the information provided, additional documentation may be requested.
4. Submit your Application & Documentation
If you are not using Submittable, you may submit your forms and documentation via:

- Secure Drop Box: Located on the exterior wall (between doors #57 & #58) on the S. 7th Street side of our building.

What Happens Next?
You will receive an email regarding your application status within 7-10 business days from the date we receive your completed application.
What Benefits Does the Rec & Ed Scholarship Provide?
Approved individuals or families will receive either a 100% fee waiver or a 50% fee waiver, based on documented income levels. Each approved family member may use their scholarship for:
- Fall, Winter, and Spring Terms: One (1) class or activity per term.
- Summer Term:
- Two (2) classes/activities OR
- One (1) camp (youth only) and one (1) class/activity
Are There Any Additional Costs or Exclusions?
Co-Pay for Adults: Scholarship recipients over 18 years of age are required to pay a minimum $5.00 co-pay at the time of registration.
Variable Fees: Some specific classes, activities, or camps may require additional material fees or higher co-pays as indicated in the course description.
Exclusions & Limits: Certain programs may be excluded from the scholarship program or have a limited number of scholarship spots available.
Does this Scholarship Apply to Before and After School Care?
Yes! To be considered, please complete the additional section on your application labeled “Before & After School Care Program.”

Fee Reductions: Based on your documented household income, your child(ren) may be eligible for a 25%, 50%, or 75% reduction of the "standard" session fees.

How Do I Register Using My Scholarship?
Once you receive your scholarship award email and the enrollment period has opened, please follow these steps:

Contact our office at 734-994-2300 x 0 during business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm or stop by our office Monday-Friday 9am-4pm

Register Early: While we save a specific number of spaces in all classes and camps for scholarship recipients, these spots fill up quickly!

You will receive a confirmation email once our staff has processed your registration.
Note: Our online system cannot process scholarship discounts at this time.
How Long Does the Scholarship Last?
- One-Year Term: Your scholarship is valid for one year, beginning on the date of approval.
- Expiration: It will expire on the first day of the same month the following year.
- Example: If approved on January 15, 2026, it will expire on February 1, 2027.
- Renewal: Scholarships do not renew automatically; you must submit a new application and updated documentation each year to continue receiving benefits.
