Before/After Care

Before/After Care Registration is now OPEN!  

As a department of the Ann Arbor Public Schools, Community Education and Recreation (Rec & Ed) is proud to provide a licensed out-of-school childcare program for 16 elementary school communities. Students in grades Young Fives/Kindergarten through 5th grade enjoy enriching, fun, and safe activities.
 

2025-26 Program Locations

Rec & Ed offers on-site licensed child care programs at 13 elementary buildings serving 16 school communities. Students at three buildings bus to nearby schools for after care. To register, please click on your student's school below.
 

IMPORTANT: Before Care registration is opening at all of the following buildings. However, at least 12 students per day must be registered for the program to open in the fall. Rec & Ed will review registration numbers in late June and notify parents by mid-July if Before Care will not be available at their school. (Registration fees will be refunded.)

Elementary Buildings with After School Busing to an After Care Site:

  • Haisley (buses to Abbot)
  • Pattengill (buses to Bryant)
  • Pittsfield (buses to Mitchell - this is a change from the 24-25 school year to reduce the time Pittsfield students spend on the bus after school).
Childcare programs at Burns Park and Lawton Elementary Schools are operated by Community Day Care.
The Childcare program at King Elementary is operated by KingCare.
 

Scheduling Options

Multiple schedules are available for AAPS families:

  • Full time - AM and PM 5 days/week
  • AM only - 3 days/week (M/W/F)
  • AM only - 2 days/week (T/TH)
  • PM only - 3 days/week (M/W/F)
  • PM only - 2 days/week (T/TH)
*For full-time care, families should register for all four of the AM and PM sessions.
 

Program Hours

Before Care Hours - 7:15 am (earliest drop-off) to 8:48 am (morning bell)
After Care Hours - 3:48 pm (dismissal bell) to 6:00 pm (latest pick-up)
If new bell times are announced for elementary school, Rec & Ed will adjust these times accordingly. 
 

Fees for the 2025-26 School Year

Registration Fee - $7 per activity per student (non-refundable except if a program is canceled)

FULL-TIME (AM and PM) - $621/month ($590/month with discount*)

*NEW! For the 25-26 school year, Rec & Ed is offering a 5% tuition discount in the form of a credit to families registered for full-time care. This credit will be paid into families' accounts once in January and again in June. More details will be sent to families who register for full-time care.   

BEFORE CARE ONLY

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday - $149/month
  • Tuesday, Thursday - $99/month 
  • Full-time (M, T, W, Th, F) - $248/month  

AFTER CARE ONLY

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday - $224/month  
  • Tuesday, Thursday - $149/month
  • Full-time (M, T, W, Th, F) - $373/month
To register, families must set up an automatic payment plan with a credit or debit card.
Please refer to the last section of your receipt for exact monthly payment dates.
Payments by check may be dropped in our exterior drop box or sent via US mail, and must be received before the due date.  
Note: If there is an outstanding balance on your Rec & Ed account, you will not be able to register for childcare until the balance is zero. Please contact us at 734-994-2300 ext.53253 if you have additional questions regarding billing and payments.
 

Financial Assistance

  • The Family Support Program through Childcare Network offers assistance to income qualified families.
  • The Rec & Ed Scholarship Program offers 25%, 50%, and 75% childcare fee waivers to Before/After Care families who meet household eligibility requirements.

After School Enrichment Classes

Looking for after school classes? Rec & Ed offers after school enrichment classes that run until 5:00 or 5:30 p.m. one day per week for 6-12 weeks.
