Before/After Care

Program Information

Community Education and Recreation (Rec & Ed) is proud to provide a licensed after care program for 16 elementary school communities, and before care at 10 schools. Students in grades Young Fives/Kindergarten through 5th grade enjoy enriching, fun, and safe activities.

Online self-registration has closed, but SPACE IS STILL AVAILABLE at some schools.

If your school currently does not have space, we will add your student to the waitlist and contact you when space becomes available.

2025-26 Program Locations

Rec & Ed offers on-site licensed child care programs at 13 elementary buildings serving 16 school communities. Students at three buildings bus to nearby schools for After Care. Before Care is currently offered at Abbot, Allen, Angell, Bach, Carpenter, Dicken, Eberwhite, Lakewood, Logan, and Wines.

Elementary Buildings with After School Busing to an After Care Site:

  • A2 Steam (buses to Logan)
  • Haisley (buses to Abbot)
  • Pattengill (buses to Bryant)

  • Pittsfield (buses to Mitchell)

Childcare programs at Burns Park and Lawton Elementary Schools are operated by Community Day Care.

The Childcare program at King Elementary is operated by KingCare. For A2Steam, please contact Gretchen's House.

Scheduling Options

Multiple schedules are available for AAPS families:

  • Full time - AM and PM 5 days/week
  • AM only - 3 days/week (M/W/F)
  • AM only - 2 days/week (T/TH)

  • PM only - 3 days/week (M/W/F)

  • PM only - 2 days/week (T/TH)

*For full-time care, families should register for all four of the AM and PM sessions.

Program Hours

Before Care Hours - 7:15 am (earliest drop-off) to 8:50 am (morning bell)

After Care Hours - 3:53 pm (dismissal bell) to 6:00 pm (latest pick-up)

To request cancellation of Before/After Care services, please send an email to cancel@a2schools.org. Include the following: student(s) name, school, session(s) to be withdrawn from, and last expected date of attendance. After August 18th, a 14 day notice of cancellation is required for a prorated refund.
