Officiating for Rec & Ed

Ann Arbor Rec & Ed is always looking for new officials for all our team sports. Whether you are a student who has never officiated a game or an experienced veteran looking for new avenues or even to try a new sport, we look forward to hearing from you. We will work with you to prepare you, with rules and training from experienced officials.

Minimum Age to Work Games:

14 years old for: Youth Soccer, Youth Volleyball, and Youth Baseball/Softball, Coach Pitch/T-ball

16 years old for:  Youth Basketball, Youth Flag Football

18 years old for:  All Adult leagues

Inexperienced officials may apply, but should plan to commit unpaid time for training.
 
Training:
Includes clinics, a test, a practicum and other possible requirements held approximately 2 to 4 weeks before the season begins.


Rec & Ed hires new officials for these leagues on the following timeline:

Youth Sports
Winter Youth Basketball - training begins in early November, season begins in January 
Spring Youth Soccer - training begins in early March, season begins in April
Summer Youth Baseball/Softball - training begins in May, season begins in June 

Adult Sports
Basketball - season begins in early December, experience required
Slow Pitch Softball - season begins in late April, experience or clinic attendance required
Men’s Baseball - season begins in May, experience required
Volleyball - season runs Sept thru May, experience required
